Returning Clients
I’m really looking forward to working with you again! Below are my guidelines for returning clients. (Hopefully this should be somewhat familiar by now.)
Our Process
The Dreaded Organizer
All clients must fill out an organizer. I know, you all hate organizers. Me too. I loathe everything about them. 😉 While you all know I love to chat it up and learn about your tax situation in the process, completing the organizer ensures that we miss nothing.
Your organizer will be sent to your encrypted portal. (Every returning client already has an encrypted portal.) The organizer is a fillable PDF. All you have to do is:
- Access your portal (if you don’t know how to do that, call or email me, it takes all of 87 seconds to set up)
- Download the organizer (located in the documents from preparer folder)
- Check what’s pre-filled from the previous year and make any necessary changes right on the organizer (such as address change, bank account change, etc.)
- Check the yes and no boxes according to your situation (I know, there are so many of them, uggh!!)
- Print/Save it as a PDF
- Upload the PDF to your encrypted portal
Note: If you’d prefer to come pick up your printed organizer and fill it in by hand, that is also an option. Just be in touch and we’ll arrange a time for you to pick up.
Let’s Meet, or Drop Off Your Documents
Schedule an Appointment
I am available for appointments virtually, over the phone, or in person. Returning clients — if you don’t see any appointment slots available, reach out to me! Jake@savagetaxportland.com
An appointment can be very useful if you’ve had some big changes to your life/tax situation that are more easily conveyed in person rather than by email. Or, if you just want to talk about music, the meaning of life and other awesome stuff while I prepare your tax return, GREAT.
If you choose a virtual appointment, please make sure to be in front of a computer or tablet when we meet so you can clearly see all the tiny little numbers on your screen.
Just like last year, I ask that you submit your tax docs 3 DAYS in advance of the virtual appointment. That way, I have the time to look at your materials BEFORE we talk. It maximizes efficiency and ensures that I don’t waste your valuable time. Please note: the 3-day rule includes submission of the dreaded organizer.
Schedule a virtual appointment Schedule an in-person appointmentA “Drop-Off”
Just like it sounds: you either drop off all of your documents in paper OR upload the documents to your encrypted portal – your choice. I work on all tax returns in the order received. Once I receive 100% of your tax return information, I put it in the queue.
Once I begin work on your tax return, I will call or email with any questions I have. Once I’m finished, we can go over your return either by phone, video or email – your choice.
Schedule a time to drop off your docsSubmitting Your Tax Documents
I accept documents in electronic or paper format. As much as possible, please send your information one way or the other but not both. Submitting half your documents through the portal and the other half in paper is what we’re trying to avoid here as it overcomplicates the process.
Submitting Electronically
Please upload all electronic documents to your portal. As much as possible, avoid sending your documents through email as it is not secure.
IMPORTANT: Email me directly once you’re completely finished uploading your documents (this includes completion of the dreaded organizer). I will put your tax return in the queue once EVERYTHING is uploaded. However, if you’ve uploaded everything except that one darn stubborn document that you know won’t arrive until the last second, just email me to let me know that’s the situation. I will then go ahead and put your tax return into the queue.
Submitting Documents in Paper
Just like it sounds: you either drop off all of your documents in paper OR upload the documents to your enJust as it sounds. As much as possible, submit all of your documents at once – do not drop one document off at a time. I have a secure drop box in front of my office. Please bundle all of your documents together, ideally in a large envelope. Don’t have one? Use a clip or heavy-duty rubber band.
Let’s work together again.
I’ll sweat the details so you don’t have to.
